Q&A with Vancouver Island's Wedding Planner Jill of Your Dream Theme Event Design
I have had the pleasure of working with Jill multiple times since moving to Vancouver Island in 2021 and have loved absolutely everything she and her fabulous team create! We worked on a styled fall themed wedding photo session together in the beautiful Cowichan Valley (Duncan, British Columbia) and again for team headshots/branding photos in Victoria, British Columbia. I have just loved watching her business blossom over the years and wanted to feature her on the blog this week with a little Q&A so you can get to know her and what services her company, Your Dream Theme Event Design provides to Vancouver Island & beyond for your wedding or event.
What made you want to become a wedding and event planner & designer?
For years, I found myself creating magical, personalized designs and coordinating special events for friends and family. I’ve always had a deep passion for bringing different unique visions to life, and I kept hearing, “You should do this professionally!” Eventually, I took that leap—and I couldn’t be happier with where this journey has taken me. Today, Your Dream Theme Event Design allows me to curate unforgettable experiences for couples and clients, making every celebration as special as it deserves to be.
How many years have you been in business? How many team members did you have when you first began, and how many do you have now?
I officially launched Your Dream Theme Event Design in 2020—right in the middle of the pandemic. I saw an opportunity to bring joy to people through intimate, beautifully designed outdoor picnics. Those small gatherings helped showcase our creativity, and through word-of-mouth and social media, we quickly grew. I started with just one team member, Crystal, along with the occasional help from friends. Now, I’m proud to have an amazing team of eight talented women who bring all our clients’ dreams to life!
What services do you offer couples for their wedding planning?
We offer full-service wedding planning, event design, and coordination to ensure a seamless and stunning celebration. Whether you need help from start to finish or just want expert guidance for the big day, we have tailored packages to suit every couple’s needs. If you had to choose one part of the wedding day, what would be your favorite moment?
One of my absolute favorite moments is the first look—whether it’s between the couple, a bride with her dad, or even a special moment with a grandparent. The raw emotion in that instant is absolutely priceless. A close second? The grand entrance. Seeing the newlyweds walk in, stress-free and glowing with joy, knowing they can finally sit, soak it all in, and celebrate together is just beautiful.
What other events besides weddings have you worked on?
While weddings are our specialty, we’ve had the honor of designing and coordinating vow renewals, corporate events, charity galas, milestone birthdays, grand openings, bridal showers, baby showers, bachelorette parties, and even celebration-of-life ceremonies. Every event, no matter the occasion, deserves thoughtful planning and a beautiful design.
What areas do you offer your services?
We primarily serve Vancouver Island - anywhere from Sidney, Sooke, Victoria, Cowichan Valley, Nanaimo, Parksville, Tofino & more as we’re always open to traveling! In fact, we have two weddings in Whistler this year, and we love bringing our expertise to new locations.
What inspires you when planning or creating an event?
Every event is unique, and inspiration comes from so many places—our couples, the season, the venue, and of course, our creative team. Sometimes, a brilliant idea can stem from something as simple as a pool noodle! We love thinking outside the box to make each event one-of-a-kind.
What does a typical wedding day timeline look like for you? How many hours do you work per day?
Every wedding is different, so there’s no one-size-fits-all timeline. However, most wedding days follow a rhythm: getting ready, first looks, ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, cake cutting, and dancing. Our team creates highly detailed, colour coded and customized timelines to ensure everything flows smoothly. We don’t put a hard number on hours—we stay for all the key moments.




What is on your bucket list for planning and designing? Are there any venues you’d love to work with?
I would love to plan a wedding at an oceanfront venue in Italy—something straight out of a dream. Another bucket-list event? Designing a luxurious wedding on a yacht. There’s just something so elegant and unforgettable about celebrating on the water! I also have a top secret Christmas theme Dream set up. I’m hopeful to share this one day.
If you could give couples who are in the planning stages of their wedding one piece of advice, what would it be?
Breathe. Make lists, take it one step at a time, and don’t let the process overwhelm you. Most importantly—reach out to a planner! Even if you’re unsure about hiring one, a consultation can give you clarity, confidence, and expert insight into what you need for your big day. Planning should be exciting, not stressful!
